The village of Helpston is surrounded by level crossings. This series of caches are placed near to the crossings, but far enough away to avoid any security concerns.
This particular crossing is manned (usually woman-ed in my experience!) by a person with a radio, who opens the gates when you press the bell. Be prepared for a significant wait here if you wish to cross, as it needs quite a big time gap between trains, to open the gates and cross safely.
