The Worlds View Look-Out site gives an amazing vista of the city of Pietermaritzburg and its surroundings and on a clear day you can see the N3 highway to Durban disappearing to the south and to the south-west the main Transnet railway line snaking its way up the 400m escarpment up to and through the twin Cedara Tunnels. The Old Voortrekker Road, up which the early European settlers dragged their Oxen drawn wagons is visible 50m to the east and 200m below is the first Natal Main Rail Line, built in 1915 that wound its way under Hilton and onward to the Highveld. Now part of the proclaimed Worlds View Conservancy, extending some 10 000Ha to the south and west of the cache site, this is a protected area with pockets of indigenous forest and grassland among the artificial plantations and is one of the last havens of the endangered Hilton Daisy (Gerbera aurentiaca). If you are lucky you will see Long-crested Eagles (Lophaetus occipilatis) soaring above and below, and even, on a good day, an African Crowned Eagle (Stephanoeatus coronatus). The cache is a magnetic nano-container which replaces an earlier cache established in 2006. This cache is 1055m AMSL. As a nano-container there is no room for trading items or a pencil, so bring your own writing implement. Enjoy the view !!
