Take the trail direction Splügen Pass.
After the hydroelectric dam and before the trail drops steep down, the Petling is hidden.
Start in Splügen. Parkplätze genügend vorhanden.
Dann wandert man auf dem Saumpfad Richtung Splügenpass.
Nach dem Stausee erreichen wir die Schlucht des Cardinello.
Kurz nach der Staumauer, bevor es steil abwärts geht, ist der Petling versteckt.
Inizio a Splügen, con abbostanza degli parcheggi disponibili.
Poi si commina sul malattiere nella direzione del passo di Splügen.
Jl passo di Splügen prima porta il nome "Colmen dOrso" = Bärenpass.
Dopo il lago artificiale si arriva la forra Cardinello.
Poco dopo la diga di sbarramento, prim a ch scende la strada e nascosto il Petting (Cache)
Gli inverni specialmente duri degli anni 1816/17 entrarano nella storia come inverni di fame.
Malgrado della vicinanza verso L"Italia" non si poteva importare abbastanza ceriali ed altri merci. Questo e la concorrenza del Gottardo, Brennero e d il passo di Splüga ha senti to abbligare il cantone dei Grigiomi a transformare la malattiera in una strada.
Bei der Via Spluga handelt es sich um einen Kultur- und Weitwanderweg in den zentralen Alpen, der seit Jahrhunderten Deutschbündner, Rätoromanen, Walser und Lombarden bzw. die beiden Ortschaften Thusis und Chiavenna miteinander verbindet. Die Via Spluga verläuft weitgehend über historische Saumpfade, deren ursprüngliche Bausubstanz zu einem grossen Teil erhalten geblieben oder wieder instand gestellt worden ist. Die Via Spluga ist insgesamt ca. 65 km lang.
Splügen-Isola: Heute erreichen wir den Kulminationspunkt der Tour, den 2115 Meter über Meer gelegenen Splügenpass. Als Saumpfad war er auf einer römischen Militärkarte eingezeichnet und hatte früher den Namen "Colmen dOrso", was soviel wie "Bärenpass" bedeutet. Ab dem 14. Jahrhundert wurder der Splügenpass als Saumroute von Süddeutschland in die lombardische Tiefebene bekannt.
Erst nach der Eröffnung der Gotthardbahn anno 1882 brach der Transitverkehr über den Splügenpass zusammen. Via Monte Spluga und der Schlucht des Cardinello, welche lange Zeit als gefährlichstes Teilstück der Route galt (heute ist alles gut ausgebaut), erreichen wir als heutiges Etappenziel das Dorf Isola.

The Via Spluga is a Culture and long distance trail in the central alps. It combines since over hundred of years the population or tribes of « German-Bündner », « Retoromans » « Walser » and « Lombards ».In other terms the Villages of Thusis and Chiavenna. The Via Spluga follows mainly historic mountain trails which to some degree have remained intact or were rebuilt. It is approx 65 km long.
Splügen-Isola : is the point of culminataion of the tour with the Splügen Pass, alt. 2115 meters. As a mountain trail it was already shown in a roman military map and was in early times called « Colmen dOrso » which means so much as the „Bear pass“. Since the 14th century the the Splügenpass was known as the mountain trail from southern Germany to the lower plains of Lombardia.
It was only after the opening of he Gotthard trainline anno 1882 that the transit traffic broke down.
Crossing Via Monte Spluga and the gorge of Cardinello which for a long time was consiedered as the most dangerous part oft he route the trecker reaches the village of Isola, the end of todays journey.
