Sausage Factory Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Easy driveby with off-road parking for 1 or 2 cars. Short walk down slight slope to cache location. 35mm film canister, please replace exactly as found.

This cache is hidden near the building locally known as the "Sausage Factory" presumably because of its earlier origins - if anyone can supply history would be appreciated!

Many thanks to Mullioncross who after speaking to a local, discovered that the factory was owned by Harold Stocks of the "Stocks family" who owned Stocks, cement bricks etc. - apparently the business started in Castleford and moved to the premises at Allerton Bywater where the sausage skins were manufactured. Apparently the floor in the premises is still sloping down at each side to form a channel where the water from washing the skins etc. could escape. It is understood that the business closed down about 25 or so years ago.
