Geocache Description:

During the early 20th century, most rural communities formed their own school districts and built their own schools. Most of these were one-room schools with one teacher who was responsible for all grades - usually grades one to six or grades one to nine.

In 1910, the settlers at Lower Beaverlodge petitioned the government to form a school district for their children. School district #2812 was formed in 1912, the second in the Grande Prairie area. That same year a notched log school was built seven miles southeast of Beaverlodge by Billy Johnson. In September of 1913 J.W. Wilkie was hired as the first teacher. His salary was $600.00 plus $20.00 for lighting fires. The school was closed under consolidation in 1950. In 1986 the school was moved to the Beaverlodge Campground and restored.
