This cache commemorates the beginning of a trail. From this humble beginning, without crossing too much pavement, the hiker or trail runner can wend his or her way up the Coal Creek Trail to Cougar Mountain, over Cougar Mountain to Squak Connector, up Squak Connector to Squak Mountain, over and down the east side of Squak Mountain to Tiger Mountain, and through Tiger to .... I don't actually know how far you can keep following trails from there. I'm thinking that you can take gravel roads to Rattlesnake Mountain, then get on the Ironhorse Trail to the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail will certainly take you a very long way!
What is sort of surprising is that there is no sign of any of this at the trailhead: no parking lot, no indication of what awaits the intrepid traveler.
My daughter, SquibStevie gave me the name for this, since I was talking to her on the phone when I spotted the wonderful new stairs that have recently been built to take the hiker up to the little ridge where the cache is hidden. For a trail lover, they are not to be missed!
After passing this wonderful new construction, continue on up the trail until you see a faint track heading off to the north or east. Follow that to the area of GZ.
