Geocache Description:

The container is a plastic ice cream container that has been "camoed." There is a pencil to sign the log book. It will be available until a significant amount of snow falls. The cache contains some National Purple Heart Hall of Fame Pencils and Army "guys" for the little ones. For FTF there is a National Purple Heart Hall of Fame Bookmark.

This cache is placed in honor of my father, James E. Showens, at risk of disclosing my identity because I am proud of him and his service to our country. He was in the Army during World War II and, although he did not pay the ultimate price as many of our guys and gals did and continue to do, he did pay a pretty hefty one. He was wounded and captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. He spent 2 to 3 months as a POW at which time he lost a significant amount of weight, for which, after his liberation from the Stalag, he was hospitalized in France for about a month before he could be returned home. He is now registered in the National Purple Heart Hall of Fame (www. nationalpurplehearthalloffame.org). Maybe you know someone who should be recognized there too. Check it out! The cache is in an area where my Dad used to like to make a little noise while hunting rabbits or pheasants.
