Geocache Description:

A pretty walk (about 1 hour one way) or mountain bike ride through Cape Liptrap Coastal Park along marked established firebreak, 4WD or walking trails from a car park on the Fish Creek-Walkerville Rd to Cooks Creek Waterfalls. The walk is through coastal heathland and peppermint/stringybark forest, and involves changing tracks at various waypoints. Steep in the last 100m. Track slippery if wet. On sunny or warmer days beware of snakes. Note that fox-baiting occurs in this area.

As a rule of thumb veer right at track intersections or direction changes (when coming from Walkerville Rd.) Coordinates are at the start of the 'new' track or diversion. Refer to waypoints. Start (carpark) S 38 47.479 E 146 01.214 A S 38 47.511 E 146 01.349 B S 38 47.701 E 146 01.454 C S 38 48.202 E 146 01.615 (pole 24 used to be here .. now gone) D S 38 48.298 E 146 01.655 E S 38 48.546 E 146 01.659 F S 38 48.726 E 146 01.550 G S 38 48.810 E 146 01.337 Falls S 38 48.836 E 146 01.267 Note that the cache S 38 48.837 E 146 01.277 is up from the falls and not visible from the track, but only about 10m from it. Hand size container. There are alternative ways from the rear of the Waratah Bay caravan park (S 38 48.628 E 146 02.151). The shortest involves following the track for about 100m to the track intersection, turning LEFT and then crossing the creek and following the track up the hill. This brings you to reference point stage 5 (point E above). Veer left and continue from there (there should be a sign). The longer and more interesting, involves following the track for about 100m to the track intersection, turning RIGHT, and then following the rough track up the hill. This brings you to reference point stage 3 (point C above) via S 38 48.555 E 146 02.184, then S 38 48.495 E 146 02.122, then to point C. Turn left and continue from there. Thanks to Jimmy for trailblazing the last part of the track to the falls, and the track from the caravan park. Fox baiting occurs in this area. The baits are located at numbered treated pine poles. Dogs should be kept away from these areas e.g. on lead. This is one of the GreyGuru's lesser known, partly known and 'no way know-en' waterfalls of South Gippsland series (also Albert River Falls .. they're back! [GC3GCAX] and Let's call them Nicholls Falls [GC42B93]) .. enjoy.
