Geocache Description:

Another in the Uncle and Aunt Series of BennyKidd(R's) Uncles and Aunts. This cache is dedicated to R's Uncle Frank.Uncle Frank was born in Warsaw,Ont. on Dec.1,1903. He moved with Grandpa & Grandma Kidd to Zealandia in 1906.Uncle Frank learned the farming business from his dad(R'sGrandpa) in the Horse and Buggy days. He worked on and off the farm as a Blacksmith in a local shop in Zealandia. He enjoyed his Greyhound Dogs, hunting coyotes, sports days and fishing. Uncle Frank married Irene Brookbank April 12 1928 while she was teaching at Dublin School.Uncle Frank and Aunt Irene lived thru the hardships of the "Dirty Thirties" and after many moves and 5 children later they ended up 1/2 Mile east of the Brookbank homestead on rented land known as the "Cowan Farm". They farmed with horses. The house was small,2 bedrooms, one large room-that served as kitchen, diningroom, and front room and there was a trap door in the floor giving access to a dark basement with a dirt floor. Washing was done by using a hand operated round tub and an attached ringer. Water was carried in by hand from the dam North of the house and heated on the stove in a boiler.Soap was made from lye and rendered animal fat. The "bathroom" was an outdoor "Biffy"--mighty cold in the winter--with an "Eatons Catalogue" for toilet paper.Bathing was on Saturday night in a tin tub in front of the stove, starting with the youngest to the oldest. Bath water was saved to scrub the floor the next day.
This story is told JUST so you get a bit of an appreciation of how life was back in those days--we could go on & on.
Uncle Frank and Aunt Irene moved to the location where the cache has been placed in 1945. R can vaugley remember going as a kid (One D again) with Dad and Uncle Frank to the Pool Elevator just to the South of here--It was the First time R had seen a truck hoisted up in the air to dump it--WOW--at least for a kid it was WOW.
Unlce Frank and Aunt Irene moved into Rosetown in 1956. R can remember many visits to Rosetown to visit--enjoy good food and the only place R can ever remember playing Dominoes.
Uncle Frank passed away in 1973 of Cancer--R&K had just moved to Saskatoon after getting married and we visited with Uncle Frank in the hospital before he passed away. Aunt Irene was named Citizen of the Year in Rosetown in 1990. Aunt Irene volunteered her time endlessly and could alwys be seen walking to or from the Hospital or Seniors home where she visited all the time. Aunt Irene went on to live into her 99th year and celebrated her 99th birthday Dec.4.2001 with a very nice Birthday Party and she was presented with a "GREAT ONE" 99 T Shirt. Aunt Irene passed away on Dec.30th of 2001.
Uncle Frank and Aunt Irenes door was always OPEN for a Visit--we do miss them both.
