Originally known as Portobello Road Church, Pukehiki Church, was made on a budget of 250 pounds. Walter Riddle started building in January and by March 1868 the build was complete and by April was ready for the first minister. Walter made little profit and had trouble when a gale threatened the partly completed roof. The transepts and tower were added, and stonewall erected in 1884. The first minister was Alexander Greig this was his church for 36 years, he did a lot of visiting on horse back the horse was always called Paddy, he rode in a frock coat and a top hat. Even in the most inclement weather he seldom wore anything other than his top hat.
Info: Otago Peninsula by Hardwick Knight.
I went to sunday school across the road, the church still has services and Christmas carols and people still get married here.
