3G
3G står for et tredjegenerations mobilnetværk. Teknologien bag er
UMTS, som står for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System.
Udenfor Europa har den samme teknologi fået forkortelsen W-CDMA
(Wideband Code Division Multiple Access). I andre dele af verden
vil 3G bruges som navn på CDMA eller CDMA2000.
UMTS
UMTS er en forkortelse for Universal Mobile Telecommunications
System, der er en 3. generations mobiltelefonsteknologi (3G). 3G er
afløseren for GSM, der også er kendt som 2G. UMTS er standardiseret
af 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) og er den europæiske
udgave af IMT-2000-standarden for 3G-mobilnetværk.
UMTS giver som udgangspunkt mulighed for en teoretisk
dataoverførselshastighed på 384 kbit/s og 7,2 Mbit/s downstream via
protokollen HSDPA og 1,4 Mbit/s upstream via HSUPA . På længere
sigt forventes hastigheder op til 100 Mbit/s downstream og 50
Mbit/s upstream.
I Danmark er der pt. 2010 fire UMTS-licenshavere: 3, Telenor, TDC
og Telia.
4G
4Gstår for "fourth generation mobile networks", og er en
overbygning på 3G-netværket og vil primært blive anvendt til at
transmittere datatrafik. 4G-nettet, som det populært kaldes, i
daglig tale LTE, anvender frekvenser omkring 2500 MHz.
De fire teleselskaber, der er i gang med at opbygge 4G-net i
Danmark er Telia, 3, TDC og Telenor.

3G
3G stands for third generation mobile networks. The technology
behind is UMTS, which stands for Universal Mobile
Telecommunications System. Outside Europe, the same technology had
the initials W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access). In
other parts of the world 3G will be used as the name of CDMA or
CDMA2000.
