Geocache Description:

This monument commemorates the centenary of the start of the journey of Hume and Hovell from Hume's station (near here) to Westernport Bay.

The inscription reads:

Their journal for the day reads:

Sunday, October 17.--Leave Mr. Hume's station (the last which is settled or occupied by the colonists) without a guide; travel twelve miles S. 60 W. (through a country affording good pasturage for cattle, thinly wooded and well watered) then rest for the night. The soil, near the spot where they halt, is composed principally of coarse schistus and granite.

From GZ you can also see an old water tank used for refilling steam trains.

Please be careful climbing up the bank. It isnt as high if you walk away from the monument a bit.
