Sysmän keskustasta lähtevän vesireitin päässä vartioi jylhä Päijätsalon saari porttina Päijänteelle, Päijät-Hämeen maakuntajärvelle. Saaren korkein kohta kohoaa 180m:n korkeuteen merenpinnasta ja sieltä avautuu mahtavat näköalat Päijänteen suurimmalle selälle, Tehinselälle. Päijätsalo on luontoarvojensa takia osin rauhoitettu ja osa siitä kuuluu Päijänteen kansallispuistoon. Retkeilijöitä varten saaren parkkipaikalla on hyvä opastetaulu ja sieltä lähtee merkattu kävelyreitti saaren huipulle. Lisäksi Pyydysniemessä on rantautumispaikka veneilijöille sekä nuotiopaikka. Lähellä saaren korkeinta kohtaa kohoaa vuonna 1899 rakennettu näkötorni joka sotavuosina palveli myös ilmavalvonta-asemana. Kätköpaikka sijaitsee siis keskellä suojelualuetta joten toivon että käytätte liikkumiseen vain merkattuja reittejä ja muutoinkin toimitte kuten rauhoitusalueella kuuluu. Parkkipaikalta suosittelen seuraamaan punaista linjaa. Polku on kivikkoinen ja joskus liukas joten suosittelen tukevia vaelluskenkiä ja talvella lumikenkiä. Päijätsalo is a rugged island in Sysmä that guards the way to the lake called Päijänne. Highest peak of the island rises up 180 meters from sea level and there are fantastic wiews over the open lake called Tehinselkä. Part of the Päijätsalo belongs to the Päijänne national park. At the parking place there is a good guidepost with marked hikingroute. In Pyydysniemi you find a good wharf for the boaters and a campfire. Near the highest top of the island stands observation tower that was built in 1899. There was an air surveillance station at war time. The geocache stands in the middle of the national park so I hope that you use only marked routes and don't harm the nature. I suggest to follow the hikingroute marked with the red flags.The route is stony and sometimes slippery so be careful. I suggest to have good hikingboots and/or snowshoes in winter.
