Geocache Description:

I enjoy solving puzzles, if I can figure them out, but since moving to NC I have noticed not a lot of the unknown caches are actually puzzles. I am starting a one man revolution to change that.

This puzzle may be harder for some than others. I personally have not come across one like this but maybe I have and never knew it. Read the paragraphs below, everything you need is there. No hidden text or meanings. If you are truly stumped let me know and I will laugh and then probably help you along.

Now on to the puzzle. Their lives an old widow in a blue house down a mostly deserted lane. Her faithful K-9 companion, Shep, never left her side. In everything she did, Shep was there. Recently, the economic downturn has hurt her. Thankfully her loving children have pitched in to help her. Yvonne, her oldest daughter has been doing the shopping for her. Franklin, youngest of the four, unfortunately lives too far away to help much. Ingrid’s husband, Virgil, stops by weekly to mow the lawn and do odd jobs. Virgil’s profession is as an accountant, so he really is not much help as he thinks. Every week, despite his best efforts, the grass seems to get longer and longer.

Zipping past the widow’s house one day, Joe Thompson III (the third), spotted Virgil slaving away. Every part of his shirt was soaked with sweat from his laboring. Reflexively, Joe stopped his car, backed up a bit, and asked Virgil if he needed any assistance. “One day I’ll be too old to do this, but I got if for now, thanks,” was Virgil’s answer.

“Okay, let me give you my number if you would like. Never know when you may need a little help,” responded Joe. “Even may get to use all those expensive tools I bought awhile ago,” he added with a wink. Eventually he hopped back in his Audi A4, and proceeded down the road. In the back of his mind, Virgil was already regretting the fact that he did not accept the help. Getting back to work, Virgil finished up the front lawn and began to work on the side yard before taking a break and going inside.

“Hello my love,” Virgil smiled at his wife when he walked in. “Thought I would never get that front done, but I did.”

“Nicely done, honey.” Ingrid was actually very unsympathetic to Virgil. Nine years of marriage and he never really showed true affection toward her. Even their cat, Whiskers, got more cuddle time than she did. “Fetch me some canned tomatoes from the cellar will you?”

“In the cellar, are you crazy, that place is full of cobwebs and smells like dead cats!” exclaimed Virgil. Virgil was none too fond of the darkness either. Eventually his wife coaxed him down the narrow stairway to grab the needed supplies.

While all the commotion was going on with Virgil and Ingrid, more important things were happening across town. Semi trailers full of turkeys ran a stop light and collided into an empty school bus. Everyone involved was okay, but the poultry was another story. Veteran Police Chief Robertson was first on the scene. Everywhere he looked it appeared to be snowing. Not that it was, just feathers falling from heaven.

“Now I’ve seen just about everything, but this takes the cake,” stated Chief Robertson. Inside the trailers, what turkeys who did survive were going crazy. “Nelson, get a tow company on the phone so we can clean this mess up. Everyone in town will want to get through here in an hour or so!”

“On top of it sir,” responded officer Reginald Nelson. Nelson picked up the radio to call into the station to get a tow truck coming. Even though he had worked on the force for fifteen years, the chief still treated him like a rookie. Twice the week before, he was sent on a doughnut and coffee run. While Nelson actually made things happen, Chief Robertson bitched to the truck drivers about how stupid they must be to cause an accident of such magnitude. Only one time on record has the chief truly been happy while doing his job.

Fifteen minutes later, Mr. Thompson happened upon the commotion while trying to make his way home. Inside he wondered what had truly happened. Voices spoke to him and his lawyer instinct. Every accident means there is a victim, and money to be made. Since he was already delayed, Thompson pulled over and looked for potential clients. Even with the big pile up and hubbub, there really wasn’t much for Thompson to do. Very reluctantly he hopped back in his car and slowly made his way back home. Even when he was home, he could not help feeling that he should have helped Virgil or the truck drivers.

Not every opportunity, presented before you is seized. Several people have helped the old widow in her old age and things are working out just fine. In the long run, what is meant to happen truly does, there is a plan for all of us after all!

Xciting story wasn’t it?????
