Travel Bug Launch Party
Hooray for Travel Bugs!!!
Come one, come all and join us for a bit of friendly competition!  What better way to celebrate 11-11-11 than to kick off a friendly little travel bug race?!?!  This event is open to anyone and will be held at the 76 Diner in Latham from 8:00pm - 10:00pm. The diner serves a large variety of appetizers, dinners and deserts.  Those who choose to eat will be responsible for covering the cost of their own food.  Attendees are not required to take part in the Travel Bug race.  If trackables aren't your thing just come along to mingle with other cachers!  The only requirement for this event is to show up and sign the log sheet.

*UPDATE* Please note that this event has grown significantly. In order for the restaurant to allow such a large group they have asked that we limit attendees to those dining. Hopefully this does not prevent anyone from attending. The restaurant has been very good about accommodating our group so please do your best to abide by this request. Thank you!

For those of you that are interested in the trackable race here are the details:

  
Race to the Rapture
(Travel Bug Race)
Once again there are people betting on a rapture.  This time around they think the world will end on 11/11/11 but I beg to defer.  I think the rapture is coming 12/12/12 and I want to see how many miles my Travel Bugs can make it between now and then.  Care to join me?  How about a little competition, a race in fact!  Bring your travel bug to this event on 11/11/11 and we will release them into the wild.  Let's see how far they can make it between now and the next rapture on 12/12/12.

Race to the Rapture - Rules for Eligible Travel Bugs:
  1. To enter you must have a travel bug (coins or cachekinz are acceptable so long as they are trackable on geocaching.com).
  2. Your travel bug must have 0 miles on it.
  3. Your travel bug must have no previous logs on its page.
  4. Travel bug must have a note card with it clearly identifying it as a racer in Race to the Rapture.
Scoring:
  1. Travel Bugs will receive 1 point for each mile that they travel.
  2. Travel Bugs will receive 5 points each time they are discovered.
  3. Travel Bugs will receive 10 points for each picture uploaded to their trackable page.
  4. Travel Bugs will receive 50 bonus points for being photographed at a Virtual or Webcam cache.
  5. Travel Bugs will receive 25 points for each state they visit.
  6. Travel Bugs will receive 100 points for each country they visit.
  7. Travel Bugs will receive 25 bonus points for being placed in a mystery or multi cache.
  8. Travel Bugs will receive 25 bonus points for attending an event (dipped or placed).
  9. Travel Bugs will receive 25 bonus points for being dipped at the final of a Night Cache.
  10. Travel Bugs that end that race at the 12/12/12 event will receive a bonus 100 points.
Prizes:
  • Launch Party:
    • Two prizes will be awarded at the launch party to the two best travel bugs.  All attendees will receive 1 vote to cast for the best travel bug.  The two biggest vote getters will receive prizes!  Keep this in mind when preparing your travel bugs!   Winners could be creative, funny, have great write ups or anything else.  Make your travel bug stand out!
  • End of the Race:
    • The three travel bugs with the highest total points as of 12/12/12 at 12:12am will receive a prize.
    • There will be a slow poke prize!  The travel bug that travels the shortest distance between 11/11/11 and 12/12/12 will get a prize!
    • There will be a first to defect prize!  It's an unfortunate reality that lots of travelers go missing.  Should some go missing in this race the first one will receive a prize!

But wait... I already have plans for the rapture!
Want to include a traveler in the race but can't attend the event?  That's OK too!  Just send your travel bug along with an attendee or get it to me prior to the event.  The more bugs we have enlisted the better!
