UAL Flight 736 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CloudCraft: It is with great sadness that I archive this memorial cache. Encroachment by homeless and impending development (odd bedfellows) have made the Cache Zone inaccessible.

By placing this cache, FlightWriter kept history alive. Perhaps we'll find another way.

Thanks to those who made the journey.

Geocache Description:

06 Oct 2013 LOG CONTAINER NOW 55' EAST OF PUBLISHED COORDINATES. Moved due to muggling. Terrain difficulty due to construction on 2 sides. Best to approach from NW or East. A very short off road romp or park and walk a few hundred feet.

06 October 2013: Due to several mugglings, the original container is at the sacred, historical coordinates but the log now resides in a new container 55' east of that point. Go to the published coordinates, appreciate the history, observe "progress" around you and then walk 55' to the obvious hiding place for the new log.

This cache is placed in memory of the 49 souls lost in the downing of United Airlines Flight 736 on 4/21/58. Forty-seven people on board the United DC-7, and two U.S. Air Force airmen flying an F-100F training jet, perished after the two aircraft collided at approximately 19,000 feet above the Nevada desert. This cache is located where the stricken Douglas airliner impacted the ground. We appreciate trade items being replaced with similar items related to aviation. More information the accident is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines_Flight_736

FlightWriter's grandfather was aboard UAL #736.
