Park and Grab

From this location looking across the road up to the Orange/Brown cliff faces hidden in the gorse and broom are the remains of Alluvial Gold Mining both north and south of the river and covering 35 square kms. Gold was first discovered here in " Golden Gully " in 1863 and continued in various forms untiul the early 1960's. Livingstone became the supply center.

This Tapit Formation of quartz sandstone,limestone and sand layers from both Marine and Terrestrial environments about 40 million years ago overlies the gold bearing alluvial quartz gravels and sands of the Taratu Formation aged about 80 million years ago.

A lack of water for sluicing was a persistent problem requiring many long water races and reduced the economic production of gold.

The cache is a One Liter Container
