A Long Haul Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

jim the roamer: Removing this from lack of interest. Since October 2021 (2 years and 11 months) this has two entries in the logbook while this would have been my fourth annual maintenance visit. Pedometer clocked 3.4 miles through beautiful woods. While it is an enjoyable hike I can not justify maintaining it anymore. There is a travel bug in it which I am not sure what I will do with as I usually do not concern myself with them. Thanks for all who completed this cache!

Geocache Description:

This multi has 3 stages and a final. It starts at the parking spaces on the north side of Monument Street and loops through the Punkatasset and Esterbrook Woods. All stages are slightly off the trail and no heavy bushwhacking is necessary. Also, there is no need to backtrack, so if you are unsure which way to go then just keep continuing forward.

This is one of the longer caches around, measuring 3.7 miles on my pedometer, and is designed to provide a pleasant walk in the woods. Stages 2 and 3 offer good places to rest and enjoy the surroundings if the mosquitoes are not biting. The loop is suitable for dogs and mountain bikes.

The first three stages are in small containers, which are nestled amongst the leaves and pine needles of the forest floor. They are concealed with sticks and other natural debris. Search gently, you do not have to tear up the landscape to find them, and make sure they are hidden when you are done. The final contains pencils, a pencil sharpener, and a logbook. There is not too much room for anything else, except one or two travel bugs.

When parking be sure to obey the signs and park completely off the road. Walk down the driveway which is also a well used right-of-way until you come to a green gate. By this time your GPS should have picked up your movement and be pointing down the correct trail. Please be aware that the final is some distance from both stage 1 and the parking. If you are unfamiliar with this area make sure you have the beginning coordinates in your GPS. Bring water. Email me if you need a hint. Have fun!

By the way, this is not winter friendly. But once you have completed the loop you will understand that it makes a wonderful x-country ski trip when there is enough snow!

Note June 2012: Updated coordinates for stage 2. Hopefully they are now accurate.
