The listed coordinates will take you to a information sign located near the remnants of the Poynette Millpond Dam built many years ago by John MacKenzie. In the same era a mill was built which produced “Doles Best Flour” but later was abandoned and demolished. The dam was later breached and the center section was removed to drain the mill pond and now only the abutments remain of the concrete structure that was about 10 feet tall and 2 feet thick at the bottom. The dam was largely removed to return the creek back to its natural state, allowing it to run free with better stream flow and provide important habitat so trout and other fish could flourish throughout this stream again.
