If you want to demonstrate your prowess as a backcountry cacher, and you don't mind getting thrashed, this is the cache for you.
I climb Mosca Peak every 5 years or so - it takes that long to forget how bad the scrub oak is. Not only oak, but thorny New Mexico locust, and plenty of other tangly green stuff. I've tried a variety of routes, but never found one that isn't a struggle. Why do it? For the challenge, of course, and great views from on top. And now, because there's a geocache on top!
I will mention one route, not because it's good, but because if we all use it, it might become better. I followed the fence coming up from the east, staying on the south side of the fence. Sometimes you have to deviate a little, but you can usually stay within sight of the fence. This leads you up to a place in the limestone bands where the climbing is not too difficult. Don't feel obliged to go this way. There are plenty of other routes that are just as bad.
The cache is a little bit down from the top on the east side, to make sure it's in the National Forest.
