At this site, on December 19, 1862, Colonel Dibrell's 8th Tennessee Cavalry regiment kept Federal reinforcements from reaching the Salem Cemetery battle (seven miles southeast). Colonel Dibrell captured 101 106th Illinois Infantry soldiers garrisoned here, burned their stockade, and heavily damaged the railroad.
