Geocache Description:

Guilmartins Beach

Welcome to my 97th cache... I finally got around to having a drive around the Guilmartins Bend area. And I am very glad i did. What a sensational little peninsula of land that the Murray River winds around. The area in here is part of the Tocumwal State Park, even though it is on the Victorian side of the border. The pic above shows the entrance to the area.

The pic above is of Guilmartins Beach. It is extremely long and sandy beach. At the time of taking the pic and placing the cache, the River height has only recently dropped, so the sand is still quite wet.

The above pic is of a huge River Redgum tree close to GZ. The amount of timber in this tree would be incredible, and by it size and the research i have done on other caches of mine, it would be in the 700 to 1000 year old range.

Depending on the time of year and level of rain, you may need a 4WD to access this cache. At the time of placing, I don't think a 2WD would get through one part of the track, but a soft roader might, depending on the drivers experience. Lots of fun though. Across summer and the months leading up, I expect the tracks will dry out and you won't have a problem. The other option is parking as close as possible and walking in, which won't be that far.

Terrain rating is for the driving difficulty in to the spot. Difficulty is a 2, mainly due to the potential muggle situation in summer. The cache is off the main beach and camping area, so shouldn't be too hard. Container is a 375ml plastic jar. Initial contents: Log sheet and some small swaps. The old Garmin Legend played up here, so I have given a good hint.

As with all my caches BE CAREFUL AND ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SNAKES. IT IS AUSTRALIA AND THEY ARE ALWAYS A THREAT, ESPECIALLY HERE.... Keep an eye on the kids if you have them near the water, and importantly, have fun....
