Geocache Description:

Guilmartin's Bridge...?

Welcome to my 98th cache hide... I had just finished placing the Guilmartins Beach cache, and i spotted a track off to the left when leaving the Guilmartins Bend State Park. Thought i would have a little sticky nose, and found the old bridge remains in the image above. Too good to pass up the opportunity to place a cache here.

So, any history on the location. Try as I like I can find none at this stage, but this would have been the original bridge over a small lagoon that the new bridge now spans. You can see in the pic above the proximity of the two bridges.

The old bridge foundations are interesting, being brick and mortar. Redgum posts visible in the water. I don't know when the new concrete bridges were first used, but the construction looks like it could have been late 60's or 70's. If anyone has any information on this, please post it in your logs, will make interesting reading.

Terrain rating is for the driving difficulty in to the spot. Container is a 200ml Sistema clip top. Terrain is for the small gully that has to be crossed from the dirt track leading in. You can either drive down and across (fun...) or walk. If there is water in the lagoon, it can probably be accessed from the road above, but make sure you pick a safe parking area not on a bend and walk. There is a track in to the bushland further south which would lead down to this bridge by the looks of it, but I have not explored that far yet. Worth a look.

The old Garmin Legend was playing up here too, so I have what i think is a pretty good set of coords, however, check the hint and spoiler pic if needed.

As with all my caches BE CAREFUL AND ON THE LOOKOUT FOR SNAKES. IT IS AUSTRALIA AND THEY ARE ALWAYS A THREAT, ESPECIALLY HERE.... Keep an eye on the kids if you have them near the water, if there is any in the lagoon at the time, and importantly, have fun....
