Situated outside a great well known landmark, St Lukes Church.
A bit of history for those who are interested:
St Luke's Church is the daughter Church of St Paul's, Hartlepool.
In the 1880's St Paul's started a Sunday School in a couple of cottages to provide for the parishioners in the Hart Lane area.
This flourished and in 1893 moved into purpose-built premises actually on Hart Lane.
There was a further move in 1901 to the present site when the congregation was accommodated in a "Tin Tabernacle".
Funds were gathered and sufficient was accumulated for the leadership of the Church to feel bold enough to build the nave transepts and crossing of the church we see now. The foundation stone was laid on St Peter's Day (29th June), 1914 and the building was consecrated on St Luke's Day, 1916.
It was not quite the Church you see internally now; there were chairs instead of pews and the Lady Chapel was at the north-east corner.
St Luke's became a separate Parish in 1926. In 1948 the War Memorial tablets (1939-45) were dedicated. In the same year the colourful reredos figures were painted by an Ampleforth monk who was a refugee from Poland. These paintings were refurbished in 1999.
The oak pews were installed in 1965. Many of the smaller oak items of furniture have been made by Thompsons of Kilburn and a feline detective ought to sniff out fifteen mice or more!
In 2008 St Luke’s entered the digital age with an updated sound system and it became the first church in Durham Diocese to have plasma screens installed.
