This is where the Teche Vermilion Channel passes under Hwy 71. The channel contains water pumped from the Atchafalaya River on its way to Bayou's Teche and Vermilion. It's purpose is to provide fresh water to both of these waterways. If you walk North across the bridge and look to the East you can see where the water flow out from a culvert, allowing it to pass under the State canal who's water is on a different journey. At times of maximum pumping 580,000 gallons of water per minute is pumped down this channel.
This cache satisfies St. Landry Parish and grid 44 of the Delorme.
