Geocache Description:

Cache is not at the posted coordinates- but this could be a good place to start. Read the description below and use the attached picture to locate the hide area.

In 1857, Isaac "Whiskey" Brown made his way up the Columbia and Willamette Rivers from Astoria and established his home on an island which became known as Brown's Island. Here, the colorful and untidy Brown raised livestock, farm produce and tobacco. Ten years later, John Minto purchased 247 acres on another island which was to be named after him. At that time, the island was covered with dense brush and flood debris, which he subsequently cleared, turning the land into productive farm land. Periodic floods have changed the landscape, most notably great floods that occurred in 1861 (the greatest ever recorded) and nearly a century later in 1964. Today the "islands" have disappeared with the changes in the river's channel- forever tying these former adversaries together into this area that is now known as Minto-Brown Island Park.

This park has long been a favorite geocaching playground for locals since shortly after the sport began with the placement of the now archived Minto by Binder on 7/08/2001. It now hosts around 30 active caches- with room it seems for at least one more. To find this cache you must use your geocaching skills. The attached photograph is located just in front of the cache.
5/11/14 Update- Sign has been vandalized over the years, but when you find it you will know you are in the correct place- I've left some not so subtle clues to confirm. In the gallery I have placed some pictures that might prove helpful. Upped the cache ratings to reflect the difficulty people have been experiencing.

Cachers have many techniques for finding caches and/or solving puzzles- powers of observation, internet searches, or working as a team with fellow cachers to name a few. Use whatever technique you prefer to locate this site- after all its just a game.
