CACHE COW
In 1938 this property was established as a family farm by Ernest O. Skinner who had a nearby dairy. The primary use of the farm was as a dairy and was in production until bought out by Pet dairies in 1951. The farm continued to operate mainly as a cattle farm until the proposed I-20 construction in the early 1960’s crossed its pastures.
Today the farm is owned by E. O. Skinner’s grandson but is a mere 5.6 acres. The original house and dairy barn still exist on the property. There hasn’t been any livestock on the farm for some time but every season there’s corn, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, beans, peas, peppers, carrots, onions, potatoes, lettuce and spinach grown on a grand scale. There's also plenty of figs, pears and scuppernongs. The most recent addition is a honey bee yard.
