This cache is named after the bird in the image that followed our every move on the top of the first peak of the Helderberg range.
It showed absolutely no fear and happily stayed within arms reach.
The cache offers wonderful views all across False bay, Table bay, Stellenbosch, the Strand, Gordons bay and beyond.
It is simply a stunning place to sit awhile and drink in the splendour. I certainly felt extremely privileged to be here.
I have added parking co-ords for the Helderberg reserve - which opens at 07:30 all year and closes at various times according to the season. There is a modest fee payable.
I have also added parking co-ords for the top nearby Helderberg Farm 4 x 4 trail which will certainly save some distance and elevation. Sadly this trail only opens at 8am and a more substancial fee is payable.
The path although steep at times is clearly visible and very easy to follow. Some rock scrambling on route and quite a bit or rockhopping. There are fairly regular cairns as well.
The cache itself is situated 19m due East of the Beacon - look out for the large fairly flat boulder. Do have a look at the spoiler pic - I would hate you to return empty handed after a long hike. There is no water on route although in Winter there may be a few small runoffs.
Unfortunately I had no swag with me so the cache holds only a log book, a couple of pencils and a stash note. There is however room for swag!
