This cache takes it's name from the cult 1985 TV series following the trials and tribulations of ex-police inspector Ronald Craven investigating the murder of his activist daughter. Craven (played brilliantly by Bob Peck) with the help of American agent Darius Jedburg uncovers a web of intrigue and conspiracy within the nuclear energy industry.
Opened in 1958, the nearby Winfrith Nuclear Energy site was used for the researching and development of nuclear reactors. It had 9 such reactors including a Large Steam generating Heavy Water Reactor and highly experimental Dragon reactor. Built in the early 60's it was designed to test fuel and components for European High Temp reactors. Between 1965 and 1976 this reactor fed 20MV into the grid. Winfriths last reactor was shut down in 1995 although decomissioning will not finish until 2018. There is parking on the roadside but care should be exercised since it can get busy. Also be aware that appropiate footwear might be needed after rain or in Winter months since the area appears like it could get quite soggy underfoot. I recommend that if you have time go and have a look at the site from the public footpath that runs between the railway line and perimeter fence.
