Jacobstow (Cornish: Pennalyn) is a village and parish in North Cornwall. It is bounded on the north by Poundstock, on the east by Week St Mary and the detached part of Warbstow, on the south by Warbstow, and on the west by St Gennys. The current name has Saxon origins, meaning the 'holy place of St James'.
This is a country walk a get away from it all. The walk is a mixture of lanes, muddy tracks and fields. Probably need to wear wellies if its been raining heavy.
There is parking but only for two or three cars. We parked at N 50° 44.066 W 004° 33.288. You will need to tuck yourselves in as close to side of road as you can.
Jacobstow parish church is dedicated to St James and there is evidence of a former Saxon church on the same site. An ancient altar stone is in the south aisle chapel: it was the main altar stone up to about 1550 in the reign of Edward VI when the Church of England was becoming more Protestant and an act required that all altar stones should be removed. This one became a footbridge over a stream. It was found and moved back to the churchyard as a seat in the 1800s, and installed in the south aisle chapel in 1972.
Turn left down School Lane passing the school on your right and follow it all the way to Poulza, crossing a ford at the bottom of the valley on the way.
