Good clean family fun - that means fun for children AND adults!
Arrive at Piratemania and you are warmly greeted and assigned to a TEAM. You can just go about your business chatting to fellow pirates, but as you do, keep an eye out for DOUBLOONS. If you find any, take them to your team captain... the team with the most doubloons at the end wins - and bragging rights ensue for 12 months! Pirates have a lot in common with Geocachers. They meet up, study maps and hunt for treasure! And when they've found it, they have some scran and a jug of grog...
The whole weekend is "as piratey as possible" and that happens the moment you arrive at the venue. Massive pirate flags welcome you in, and you're greeted no doubt by a mad crew dressed up like a series of extras from Pirates of the Caribbean!

There's lots more to the event than clothing, though - there's plenty of caching to be done!
And cakes to be eaten...

An outbreak of scurvy hit the 2011 event, so we had to take in copious amounts of Vitamin C - unfortunately, we only had mad hot chillies, still, if you ate one, it won you DOUBLOONS!
There's always a little glitz...

and too much grog...

but mayhem all around, and plenty of smiles...

it's quite simple really... PIRATEMANIA!

What is it?

Piratemania is officially England’s biggest annual Geocaching event. The whole ethos is good, honest piratey fun for all ages. The first event in Europe to have achieved Mega status through organic growth, it’s a testament to each and every pirate that attends that we keep on growing, year on year. Expect the unexpected!

About the Venue

Peak Gateway is based at Dovedale within the Peak District, a fabulous tranquil location with famous rock formations, rivers and wildlife. We have numerous events throughout the weekend to keep everyone entertained and cache happy - we've even got the UK's largest Geocaching shop on site.

The true spirit of Piratemania is best enjoyed in full pirate clobber, in a tent or caravan, with a glass of rum in your hand! £11/pitch/night - book your pitch from Jan 1st. Oh and dogs are reet n'all!!

On arrival at camp you will be assigned to a particular pirate clan... and that's when the shenanigans begin!
