Geocache Description:

Oakes Preserve Avon CT

This cache is located at Oakes Preserve which is a brand new property just acquired by the ALT (Avon Land Trust). This is a beautiful area featuring an open meadow, buttonwood wetlands and a historic ice pond.

Parking is available at the very end of Chidsey Rd which is right off of Route 10. The road actually does a loop but you will go to the end of the straight dead end part.

A RED blazed trail is located just to the right of the Gazebo. Follow this trail to the marsh where you then have the option of going right of left. Go right to get closer to the cache location or going left will bring you to a clearing and a gravel road leading back to the Gazebo. There is also a short trail leading down to the marsh edge (a great spot to see the Heron). Your short bushwhack will begin near this short trail. When you find it you will see a nice view of the wetlands below.

Please note this little preserve is a work in progress and many improvements are on the way.

UPDATE: As a result of the freak October storm there are many blowdowns near GZ making it much more difficult to get to the cache. However the cache will remain at it's original location but I have appropriately raised the difficulty level.
