Geocache Description:

This is a a resurrected cache in our series we’ve named “SPIRIT RUN” to help geocachers (both tourists and locals) further enjoy their trip along Spirit Lake Memorial Highway to our beautiful Mount St. Helens … We had permanently archived the cache a while back due to issues of trash and dogs being kept in cages there, but the area is once again clean and canine-free.
Film producer George Casey developed and filmed the Oscar-nominated “ Eruption of Mount St. Helens” just a few years after the historic 1980 volcanic eruption and in 1993 opened this popular stopping site for individuals as well as tourist buses. Along with this IMAX production, he also filmed “Pacific Ring of Fire,” an award-filming film shown in IMAX theaters nationwide.
The Cinedome, with its 60-foot screen, featured “eruption seating” where a couple of upper-tier rows of seats “rumbled” during key moments in the Mount St. Helens movie. This also proved popular when the Cinedome started showing first-run feature films to local movie-goers such as the “Star Wars” and the “Indiana Jones” series. Sadly, because of finances, the Cineodome closed in 2007 and remains on the market today.
