As you will be aware you are now in the Back Paddock.
Occasionally the gates will be locked for Parks Victoria Works.
If the gates are locked please write a note and not a DNF in your log.
Although this example is deceased, it shows quite clearly what is known as Squiggly Gum.
On the trunk you can see small squiggles, which are far more pronounced on a live tree.
They are caused by the larvae of a moth eating its contorted way under the bark of the tree.
A variety of Eucalypt trees are subject to this interesting patterning.
