Geocache Description:

As you will be aware you are now in the Back Paddock. Occasionally the gates will be locked for Parks Victoria Works. If the gates are locked please write a note and not a DNF in your log. More so than other countries in the world, Australia is frequently ravaged by bushfires.

The intensity of a bushfire dictates its effect on the environment. While severe bushfires may burn all the vegetation in a particular area, more modest fires will generally cause less damage to the natural surroundings. While bushfires cause loss of plant and animal life, they also generate new growth and life.

For some eucalypt species, for example, fire will trigger the opening of seed pods, allowing them to germinate.

The nearby tree shows clear signs of having been touched by fire, However, it may have been damage inflicted on the roots by humans that the tree eventually succumbed to.
