The "Artifacts" caches bring you to artifacts of a farm that was once on this property. It was a training farm for the Ontario Reformatory (which has since closed).
The secret staircase led up to the farmhouse that once stood just above this site. This area has the largest stand of naturalized lilacs in Guelph. So it is particularly attractive in May when the lilacs are in bloom. This is a favourite dog walking area and you will almost certainly meet other hikers, dog walkers, joggers, and cyclists as you tour the area.
Parking is usually available at the trailhead (N 43 32.965 W 080 13.182). Follow the gently sloping main trail until you are about 15 metres from the cache. The terrain rating is for the final 15 metres which requires some bushwhacking. .
Warning: For the sake of safety, do not try to use the staircase. It it in very poor condition. There is a lot of garbage around this area thanks to a previous homeless encampment here. So you don't need to sort through garbage, I have provided a very specific hint as to the cache location.
