Numbers. We are fascinated by them.
We love to celebrate milestones and goals met.
One hundred always seems to be a significant number that
gives us a sense of accomplishment.
Main Entry: cen•tu•ry
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural cen•tu•ries
Etymology: Latin centuria, irregular from centum hundred
Date: 1533
1 : a group, sequence, or series of 100 like things
A one-hit wonder is a person or act known mainly for only a single
success. The term is most often used to describe music performers
with only one hit single. By stretching the definition a bit, I
bring you:
”One Cache Wonders”
“One Cache Wonders” are those geocachers that
have hidden only one geocache.
To log a “Found it” for this cache in addition to
finding the cache and signing the logbook you must have:
Found a cache hidden by 100 different “One Cache
Wonders”
Demonstrate this logging requirement any way you see fit: reference
your profile, text in the log, attach an image, create a Bookmark
list, etc.
Each entry must include:
Cache Owner (profile) name, the name of the cache, GC number,
and date found.
There are some rules to go by:
1) Previous finds do qualify. Archived caches qualify.
2) A starting date and condition needs to be established: A
“One Cache Wonder” is defined as a geocacher who
has one cache hide as of October 20, 2011. If they hide a
cache after this date, you can still use them as a “One
Cache Wonder” if you have found their first cache
before they hid their second cache. If you have NOT found
their first cache when they hide their second cache, they are no
longer considered a “One Cache Wonder” for
you.
3) Not all “One Cache Wonders” qualify. To
lessen the impact of sock puppet accounts with a single hide, the
“One Cache Wonder” must have found a minimum of
6 caches. Yes, I know that there are secondary accounts created by
active geocachers with many hides under a different username that
may fit this criteria but there aren’t that many and everyone
gets to take advantage of their secondary account as a
“One Cache Wonder”.
To make it easier for folks to log this cache: Knowing that
a lot of Challenge cachers are not from the area, you are not
required to complete the requirements before you sign the physical
log. Whenever you find yourself in the area, go ahead and sign it
but if you do, please leave a note in the logs indicating that you
have done so. Once you complete the requirements, Log your Find and
include the date that you signed the log.
FTF honors do not automatically go to the first person to sign the
log. They go to the first person to sign the log AND get their list
published on the cache page.
I have checked my finds and I have determined that I would qualify
for this Challenge but not with a lot of room to spare. I currently
have found caches placed by 122 “One Cache
Wonders” based on these rules. I have checked to see how
many “One Cache Wonders” are currently
available. Going through about half the alphabet yielded over 225
qualifying caches.
