Middleyard Mountain Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lady-Magpie: Thanks to very good friends, Little White Collie, who climbed the mountain for me and check this cache out, It does seem to have gone missing. I have therefore decided to archive this one as it's had a good run and I personally am unable to maintain it. Thanks to everyone who has visited this cache over the years.

Geocache Description:

You are seeking a small clip lock box inside a green cloth bag. It is situated in woods on the Cotswold Way but is a 200ft climb from the village of Middleyard. Not suitable for disabled or pushchairs and you might have to be quite fit. There is tree cover so GPS signal may waver a bit, if so use the clue.

I've called this cache Middleyard Mountain for various reasons. Firstly, and the more obvious reason, is that it is a very steep climb from the village up into the woods. Another reason is to celebrate the fact that geocaching has helped me get back to health with a great weight loss in just 15 months, this was a mountain for me to climb but I got there. I haven't been able to walk up here for 20 odd years but thanks to geocaching I can again see the beauty of Penn Woods. I do hope you enjoy this area as well.

Park in the village and go up Penn Lane, or Coombe Lane which is on the Cotswold Way, please don't try driving up them. Just keep climbing until you get into the wood and see the double direction signs for the Cotswold Way, take the South route. In a short distance your see a Gloucestershire Council sign stating no horses or bikes, go left of this sign. Your looking for something old and mossy, no I won't be standing there .

You could of course start up on the Selsley Common, taking in "Cubs, Do your Best" cache on route. You will still have to do a 200 ft climb but this time it would be down & back up.

I'm a pensioner and conquered the mountain twice now, so don't give up and try it. Log book and pencil inside + a few knick-knacks.

Cache placed with kind pemission of "The Woodland Trust"

Congratulations to sly2 for being the FTF on the mountain.
