Geocache Description:

This cache is set right on the edge of a minor ‘Class D’ road also designated a public bridleway (also open to motorbikes and 4x4s!). Be warned though, both access routes are very steep!! We've had many hours of fun, playing in the water and building dams!

The adjacent Vanhurst Copse site is managed by the Woodland Trust and occupies the steep eastern and western slopes in a deep ghyll (stream valley). It comprises mixed woodland of beech, oak, hazel, ash, small-leaved lime, wych elm and field maple. The ground flora is very diverse and includes numerous plants characteristic of ancient woodland such as Forsters woodrush and soft shield fern. The bryophyte flora is very rich at this site and includes some uncommon species. A new species of moss was discovered in the 1990s at this site. The geographic shelter provided by the terrain and the deep, undisturbed soils provide excellent growing conditions for fauna. Consequently many of the trees from the lower elevations reach heights in excess of 30 metres and the humid conditions offered by the stream can give this woodland the feel of a temperate rainforest.

This is a beautiful location that we wanted to share with others...
