Der Frankfurter Flughafen, auch bekannt als FRA oder EDDF, ist mehr
als ein Verkehrsdrehkreuz. Er ist eine riesige, lebendige Stadt mit
Supermärkten, Restaurants und sogar einem Krankenhaus. Neben
Flugzeugen verkehren hier auch Züge, denn der Flughafen ist nicht
nur an den Regionalverkehr angeschlossen, sondern besitzt einen
eigenen ICE Bahnhof! Zehntausende Menschen arbeiten im, am und um
den Flughafen herum. Über 50 Millionen Passagiere verzeichnete der
Flughafen 2010 bei fast 500 Tausend Flugbewegungen.
Das Flughafen Event geht hiermit in die dritte Runde, wieder mit
neuem Standort (wir wollen ja Abwechslung!). Nach dem Food Court
unter Terminal 1 und dem "Hooters" Restaurant geht's jetzt in das
neue "Squaire". Dort gibt es einiges an Gastronomie, wir treffen
uns im "Paulaner" Restaurant. Wieder sind alle Geocacher eingeladen
- ob Vielreisende oder nicht - zum Essen, Trinken und um sich über
das Cachen in Deutschland und der restlichen Welt zu
unterhalten.

"Squaire". Vom Flughafenterminal oder
Regionalbahnhof ist dieser Bau erreichbar, indem man in Richtung
Fernbahnhof läuft. In der über dem Fernbahnhof liegenen Kuppelhalle
mit dem Glasdach geht man in Richtung "REWE" und fährt mit der
Rolltreppe hinauf zur Ebene 5. Von dort ist es nicht mehr weit! Die
genaue Lage findet ihr in
einem PDF von der Website des Restaurants. Das
Geocaching Logo wird euch vor Ort zeigen, wo ihr richtig seid. Zur
Zeit ist für 15-20 Personen reserviert. Sollte mehr Bedarf
entstehen werde ich die Reservierung anpassen. Das Logbuch liegt
bis mindestens 14:00 aus.
Parken ist am Flughafen natürlich möglich, aber sehr teuer (4
Euro/Stunde). Die Anbindung an die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel ist
jedoch sehr gut. Sowohl die Anreise mit der S-Bahn (Haltestelle
"Flughafen") als auch mit dem Bus ist problemlos möglich
(Haltestelle "Terminal 1").

Frankfurt airport, also known as FRA or EDDF, is more than a hub.
It is a huge, living city with supermarkts, restaurants and even a
hospital. Not just airplanes, but also trains run to and from the
airport, which is not only connected to local transit but also
boasts an ICE (intercity express) train station! Tens of thousands
of people work at and around the airport. Over 50 million
passengers passed through in 2010 on almost 500 thousand aircraft
movements.
The aiport event is now going into the third round, again with a
new location. After the food court under Terminal 1 and the
"Hooters" restaurant we are now moving to the newly built
"Squaire". There are several restaurants there, the event will be
held at the "Paulaner". Again, all geocachers are invited - whether
frequent travelers or not - for food, drink and conversation about
caching in Germany and the rest of the world.

"Squaire". Coming from the terminal or
from local transit, walk towards the main-line station
("Fernbahnhof"). In the glass-dome hall over the station, walk
towards the "REWE" supermarket and take the escalator up to level
5. Once you are there, you can already smell the food! You can find
the exact spot in
a PDF file from the restaurant's website. On
location, the geocaching logo will show you that you found it. I
have made an initial reservation for 15-20 people and will adjust
it as required. The logbook will be present until at least
14:00.
Parking at the airport is possible, but quite expensive (4
Euros/hour). However, the airport and thus the event are well
reachable by public transportation. Reaching the event by S-Bahn
(station "Flughafen") and by bus (bus stop "Terminal 1") are both
possible and a good alternative to driving by car.
