THE PURPOSE OF THIS CACHE IS TO ATTRACT VISITORS TO LATTA PLANTATION NATURE PRESERVE AND NATURE CENTER, SHOW WHAT MECKLENBURG COUNTY NATURE PRESERVES HAVE TO OFFER, TO MAKE VISITORS AWARE OF OUR MANY CONSERVATION/PRESERVATION EFFORTS AND HOW THOSE EFFORTS BENEFIT THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY AND TO PROMOTE THE GREAT SPORT OF GEOCACHING. SAME CACHE, NEW OWNER! ENJOY! Latta Plantation Park between Charlotte and Huntersville, NC; Pleasant 15 minute walk from parking lot, some roots on trail. Hope you enjoy walking this trail where the forest meets Gar Creek off of Mountain Island Lake. An easy, 0.5 mile loop trail accessed from the picnic area parking lot. Part of the trail passes through a mature bottomland hardwood forest containing sweetgum, pawpaw and tulip poplar trees while the remaining portions traverse a dry, early successional pine-hardwood forest. This trail has been designated a "Fairy House Trail" (contact nature center for details). A 0.4 mile spur trail leads to the Gar Creek canoe access. PARK AT THE GARR CREEK CANOE ACCESS (LEFT AT POWER LINES) OR MAIN WATERFRONT PARKING LOT (1.5 MILES FROM ENTRANCE GATE, ROAD DEAD ENDS AT PARKING LOT.)
