Heartland Cacher: Greetings I'm Heartland Cacher, one of the volunteer reviewers for caches submitted to Geocaching.com.

I can't find any recent responses from the Cache Owner about maintaining this cache which makes it appear the Cache Owner is either unwilling or unable to maintain the cache. Cache maintenance includes listing maintenance including updating any changes to the text, updating coordinates, removing needs maintenance attributes and enabling the listing. The cache will be archived and removed from the active cache listings.

"If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived." Geocache Description:

This is not The Homestead Monument.
This is a roadsign marker along Hwy 77 and very easy to miss!!

One day while out on a trip I hear the hubby say...."was that a marker?"
On they way back we checked it out, yes a historical marker without a cache, "GASP", say it isn't so. (You may now relax it's been taken care of here.)

This is off a MAIN HWY, pull off fully for your safety!!!! (there is no curb onto the grass.)

Abraham Lincoln was called The Great Emancipator because his proclamation of 1862 gave freedom to the slaves. In that same year, he signed another extremely important document that gave land to free men. No single act had more effect on the Middle West and Great Plains than the Homestead Act of May 20, 1982. It brought tens of thousands of land-hungry settlers to the region that was to become the nation's breadbasket.
Millions of acres from the public domain became available. Under this law heads of families had only to pay a small filing fee and live upon and cultivate their 160 acres for five years. For some the rigors of frontier life were too great, but many others replaced the prairie grasses with grain, and built homes, often of sod, on land of their own.
The Homestead Nation Monument of America, a part of our National Park System, is located on the Daniel Freeman homestead seven miles west of this site. It commemorates this act and the policies of government that played a major role in the settlement of the West.
