Geocache Description:

Welcome!

Cedar Grove Conservation Area covers 880 acres on 2 separate tracts in southwest Dent County, between Salem and Akers Ferry. In this area you can still see the damage from a rare derecho (extreme straight line winds) that came thru the Midwest in 2009. This area is entirely forested with the exception of 2 small glades. The forest consists of various oaks, hickories, shortleaf pine and lesser species native to this region. Dogwood (the state tree) is abundant and comes into full bloom in the early spring. The Conservation Commission began acquiring this property back in 1952. All the land was purchased from private landowners. The area gets it's name from the, now gone, nearby community of Cedar Grove. There once was a mill, general store, school/church, and several homes just across the Current River. The school remains can still be seen. My father lived and attended school there from 1934-1947.
This conservation area consists of 720 acres that is 3 miles south of Jadwin off Rte K. It also includes a smaller tract that is 160 acres and is 16 miles south of Salem on Hwy 19 to Hwy WW, then 1 mile west.

Congratulations to seskds and BTG1 for FTF!!!

Permission granted by the Missouri Department of Conservation, Thanks, Mike!!! (visit link)
