Geocache Description:

The Pleasant Lake Preserve cache is located on land owned by the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust and has been placed with their permission. Cache container is an ammo box. Initial contents include Maine themed trinkets, a flashlight and logbook.
SRLT acquired the Pleasant Lake Preserve as a gift in October, 2010. The preserve is comprised of an entire 100-acre island (connected by causeway to the mainland) and the 50-acre wetland behind it. By making this very generous donation, the donor sought to ensure that the land remains forever undeveloped and managed for sustainable forest resources and low-impact, non-motorized public recreation. It is open to hiking, hunting, swimming, picnicking, etc. At the donor’s direction, fires are not allowed on the property. Wear orange during hunting season.
Access to the Preserve is from Pleasant Lake, Stetson Stream or via a pedestrian right of way on a logging road from Route 143. Kayakers and canoeists can launch at the upper dam on Stetson Stream, which can be reached from Route 143 by a gravel road at 44° 53.225 N, 69° 08.530 W marked "public boat launch". Walkers can park off Route 143 at the Pleasant Lake Preserve sign at 44° 52.925 N, 69° 08.320 W. The Preserve is intended for non-motorized access and use, and the trail in has been blocked to vehicles by a cable. A network of walking trails for public use in the Preserve is planned. As of March, 2016, the trails extended to within .15 miles of the cache, after which bushwhacking is required by cachers who choose the land route to the cache. Paddlers can get within 100 feet of the cache before disembarking their craft.
SRLT is a membership-supported conservation nonprofit based in Unity, with a mission to recognize and conserve the rich wild and working landscape of the Sebasticook River Watershed.
