We recently found a benchmark disk, and decided to share our find. We liked the cache "A Northbrook Benchmark" by Geofogies, so decided to borrow their concept to create our own short multicache. We know a lot of geocachers also enjoy finding benchmark disks, so here is a cache to combine the two.
The posted coordinates are for a benchmark near a bike path. There is nearby parking, and you can walk to the final.
When you look at the benchmark, you will see a short phrase across the top, and an identification code across the bottom in the form of one letter followed by two digits followed by one digit A-BC-D.
In order to calculate the location of the final stage:
Count the number of letters in the last word at the top of the benchmark. Call this E.
Using 1 for A, 2 for B, etc, determine the numerical value of the letter (A) in the identification code. Call this F.
E x BC - D = G
F + D = H
Subtract G from the posted West coordinates.
Subtract H from the posted North coordinates.
