This cache has been placed at the site of the Koenig House which was built in 1887 by Christian Koenig a German American Engineer who was employed by the Owens Illinois Glass Company. The house was designed by world famous architect Lucas J. Pfeiffenberger who designed dozens of mansions and public buildings in Alton including The McPike Mansion, The Haskell Playhouse and The Beall Mansion. The city of Alton has named the Koenig House on their City Register of Historical Places.
The Koenig House is maintained by the Alton Museum of History and Art which is located in Loomis Hall on the SIU School of Dental Medicine campus in Alton just across the street from the Robert Wadlow Statue. The Museum is run by volunteers and is funded by donations, admissions and memberships. Numerous interesting exhibits at the Museum display the history of Alton and the surrounding area.
The cache is on public property. No trespassing is necessary to retrieve this cache.
