Geocache Description:

Mission 13: Project GRAPE

This cache is intended to bring a smile to finders, especially those familiar with the iconic Project APE series and our local Mission 9 APE cache. The container is a bit fiddly and may require some patience to close. Note that there are two latches that will SNAP when closed. This care will keep the cache pristine for future finders.

This cache is a Project GRAPE cache, a parody cache hidden without permission for the Great Grape Ape Show Promotion in 2012. When the cache was placed, it contained several artifacts from the show, including two 5x8 grape-colored notebooks, two 2.5x3.5 grape-colored notebooks, a grape-scented "smencil" pencil, a grape-colored iPod nano sock, a monkey picture frame, two talking monkey alarm clocks, a pile of geeky bumper stickers, 3 LED keychains, a pack of boxed wine fridge magnets, two Hawaii keychains, a Sikorsky (helicopter) keychain, a whistle, a Spokane Riverfront Park carousel token, and a pile of trackables. The FTF prize is a full-sized ammo can complete with a grape-colored logbook, a grape-colored pen, an unactivated Geico TB, and an unactivated 10-10-10 coin. The description in purple below was the original description for the cache:

Project GRAPE's success continues as our movement continues to grow beyond what we ever thought possible. For this mission we are heading back to the Redmond Watershed Preserve (mmm, GRAPE preserves), where we are sure to keep our momentum going. Our confidence as a group is growing, but don't let our past success blind us to the constant threat we face. We still hear and receive daily reports of undercover Hanna Barbera agents stalking our team. Remain diligent and stay alert. Remember, anyone you don't know is a possible enemy to our parody.

Below is our field agent's report for the mission at hand:

"This mission is going to be an easy one. The hike will be as scenic as some of the other missions, but you'll be on a super short adventure. You'll need to wear a good pair of waterproof boots or an old pair of sneakers and a really really silly hat. A flashlight isn't necessary, nor is a large bag of jelly beans or an old tuning fork.

This is a hysterical and very cool spot. Be ready for a unique hike, but beware of the ducks (esp. in the ponds). Move fast and keep a good eye on your back (is that possible?) to make sure you're not tailed. Good luck!"

Cache Details:
The Redmond Watershed Preserve is an 800 acre park with a pile of caches on a mound of trails, heaped with coconut sprinkles. The approach to this cache is quickest from the parking lot at the South boundary of the park.

The only ask is that you avoid trampling the recently planted trees (flagged with orange or pink surveyors tape) by following the skid-trail up the hill to GZ. I've included the divergence of this and the main trail as coords on an additional waypoint ("Skids").

If you own a Garmin GPS, you can use Moun10Bike's Northwest Trails custom mapset to load the details of these trails (along with many others) to your receiver.

Round-Trip Distance: About 1 mile
Elevation Gain: About 10 feet (3.048 m)
