We hope to have a monthly paddle get together either hosted by me
or someone else. You may ask what the Geo Pirates are about. Geo
Pirates is a group of people who enjoy geocaching in kayaks,
canoes, rafts and boats. We have get-together events in the San
Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains. The goal of Geo Pirates
is to bring people together who have the same interest.
We will meet at Georgiana Slough Fishing Access Park at 11:30am.
There is no fee. Bring a picnic lunch and we will get to know
everyone and share stories before we paddle. Georgiana Slough is
lined with brush and trees. It is riparian habitat along the
slough, not boring rock lined levees like so much of the delta. The
slough is not popular for motorized watercraft from what I have
seen. The plan is to paddle the 3.5 miles to Walnut Grove briefly
entering the Sacramento River (.3 miles). Walnut Grove has a public
dock which may be difficult for some to exit/enter their boats
from, but if we decide to do so, we can dock and go up for an ice
cream break or hot beaverage if it's really cold before heading
back to Georgiana Slough Fishing Access Park. This will be about a
7 mile paddle total, but if anyone wants to break off early and
head back that is an option.
Your vessel must be
non-motorized for this event and PFD’s are required. Dress
for winter conditions, going for a swim is always possible, so
bring a change of clothes.
This is a rain or shine event. Men be ready to where your skirts if
necessary. There is no boat ramp. A sign advises to take valuables
with you and to lock your vehicles.
