Geocache Description:

EUREKA!! ITS STILL THERE 5/17

Bet theres ghosts in here

Another of the occupied ghost towns. Try to imagine a town you'd be proud to live in, because that was what was here, with hundreds of thousands of residents. This building is living proof that it was a town worthy of having a building like this one.
The mules and donkeys that were used in the mining operations were kept underground all their lives. Those that were released above ground due to closings went crazy when they were pulled out of the tunnels. Miners (sometimes as young as 10) had to walk as much or more than 3 miles before daybreak and return home after sunset. The coal might be another mile or so from the entrance. There, in unpleasant heat, sometimes in water, and often on hands and knees, the miner dug coal. He was paid 65 cents a ton for digging and loading the coal by hand with no pay for loading dirt, rock, pea coal, or slack. Usually in debt to a company store, a slave to its policy of extending credit. Mines closed down in summer when there no demand for heating fuel. He struggled to find odd jobs picking vegetables for as little as half cent a pound.
This building is still in use 2 fridays each month.
