Geocache Description:

"The Great Salt Lake Sundial." That's what we are calling this unique natural formation, a small rise of rocks on the western edge of the Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area, alongside the shoreline of the Great Salt Lake.

One week earlier, we found Oberon_Kenobi's 2003 hide, "Weber County West Cache," GCBDF4. From there we would see what looked like small points of land far off to the west. We vowed to come back to see what was really there, and a week later we discovered this very cool formation. It is labeled as elevation "4223" on the topographic map.

There are two rock formations here. The easternmost is the sundial feature, two adjacent rock fins with unusual erosion. That's where you'll find this cache, a waterproof match container tucked in a crevice on the western side.

The westernmost formation is a jumble of brown rock, filled with old nests. Those nests didn't look used to us--no shells or feathers, for example, and a very weathered appearance. Nevertheless, please don't disturb this area while visiting.

This cache is located within the Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area. It is a 2.7 mile walk from the parking coordinates. Although we enjoyed walking on dry sand the entire way, you should be prepared for mud and/or water, depending upon the season. The area is marked as closed from April to September, and you will not be able to access the cache during that time.
